Beats Antique

This poor blog has been deathly neglected, but here’s a happy update:

Zoe Jakes of Beats Antique

On October 2nd Beats Antique will be playing at the Abbey Pub.
For those who don’t know, Beats Antique is an electronic, down-tempo group that formed back in 2007 in San Francisco. It’s members are Zoe Jakes (it was her idea to start Beats Antique), David Satori and Tommy Cappel and they have a refreshingly unique sound.
Infused with Middle Eastern belly dance, afro-beat, jazz, hip hop and electronic sounds their music is relaxing, energizing and funky all at the same time.

To add to the influence of the Middle Eastern belly dance sound when Beats Antique performs live Zoe Jakes takes over the stage and belly dances to their beats. Their first album, Tribal Derivations, was actually a concept album to cater to Zoe’s dance styles which are described as a fusion of traditional belly dance with break dance, tango and Indian dance.

The show starts at 9 pm and the group will be accompanied by Save the Clocktower, Lynx and Vapor Eyes for the night. It’s an all ages show that costs $16. In my opinion the Abbey Pub is one of the best places to see DJ’s and smaller acts because of the intimate, lax ambiance. Blockhead played at the Abbey Pub and it was one of the best shows because there was the comfort of a smaller space and the laid-back attitude that comes along with it.
Hope to see some faces there.

In the meantime, check out this Beats Antique track off of the second album Collide.
